Sweet Kicks

I am pretty far behind on blogging and hope to catch up over the next few weeks. As a teaser for the post I am working on, here is a killer pair of Louboutin’s from Amisha and Chris’s Wine Country Wedding. Look closely at the individual “fish scales.” The detail work is amazing….

La Maison de Photo Now On PurePhoto Collections™

La Maison de Photo specializes in B&W photography. It distributes images with a poetic and timeless view of French landscapes. Looking for perfection, quality and authenticity, La Maison de Photo recently launched in Belle-Ile-en Mer in Brittany on the French Atlantic coast an art gallery with photos from its two founders, Patrick Borie-Duclaud and Nicolas Boudreaux. Visitors can discover black and white photographic work about Belle-Ile-en-Mer in the gallery located on the island.
All photos are printed using traditional, analog techniques. Prints will have optimal nuances of greys with a unique combination of surface reflection, high fidelity, and tone resulting from burning and dodging effects applied individually to each print. You can find their selected works online at PurePhoto Collections.

About the Artists:

Patrick Borie-Duclaud was born in 1960. “I studied photography for three years in a private school in Toulouse, in the South of France. Then I’ve worked as a freelance photographer in Los Angeles for two years before starting a 20-year long career in publication photo shoots in France. Now back in Brittany, I have dedicated myself to black and white landscape photography”

Nicolas Boudreaux was born in Paris in 1964. “After a few years studying graphism, I started working in publication shoots in Toulouse, France. I am now fullfilling a long-time dream of mine. Every day I get to shoot the island of Belle-Ile-en-Mer with my closest friend.”

So, I am a little behind…

About 12 jobs behind…it’s been a crazy few months! However, I am about to catch up in a big way so there will be lots to post over the next few weeks. Here are a couple from Courtney and Chris’s shoot…

anonymous email from a bride…

I received this note yesterday and thought I would share it with all the brides out there. Forget the parts about me, this is about choosing your photographer wisely, no matter who they are. I can feel the disappointment in her note but the worse part is that I receive 10 or more of these each year. The point is that you get what you pay for…especially when you have a destination wedding and hire a local photographer to save money. If you love someone’s work, pay for them to be there at your wedding…

Dear Ryan,

I felt compelled to write to you simply because I am was so moved by your images. I came upon your blog inadvertently, and what began as an unexpected find turned into a long visit to your website. I was touched by your work that I couldn’t stop from going from image to image – I couldn’t stop looking. My husband and I live in Los Angeles, but we got married in Oahu, Hawaii in June a few years ago. We turned to the services of a local photographer who disappointed our vision and expectations. Three years later we have yet to put our wedding album together as we are not much inspired by our wedding images. Our wedding film was shot by Angel De Armas who was a dream come true with his unsurpassed gift. We love him.
Your work is equally impressive, I was awe-inspired while viewing your photos. How I wish we would have found you as our photographer! But it is so reassuring to know that a gifted photographer like you is doing such unforgettable work and maybe we will meet you in the near future and use your services for other events. I couldn’t help leaving you this message.
All the very best to you in your endeavors.

Signed X

I asked her if I could post this and she emphatically said yes but without her name. She wanted me to add that she hopes she will inspire at least one bride not to make the mistake she made. Again, I post this because it happens a lot. Whether it is destination or otherwise, pay for the photographer you want. When the food has been eaten, the flowers have dried up and the sound of clicking glasses and applause fade from your memory, the only thing you have left is your images. I promise you, you don’t want to be the brides who write back to me with regrets….

Christoph + Jenny

Christoph and Jenny’s wedding encompassed everything I love about shooting weddings all in one day. To start the C&J are humble, caring people and oh so in love with each other. The guests were amazing and interesting and their family units were about as close as it gets. Just to see the looks on Jenny’s Mom and Dad’s faces was worth the trip. It reminds me of the big bowl of jello I will be at Kennedy’s or Ryder’s wedding. The day was filled with so much emotion you couldn’t help but be swept up by it. Now of course it’s Hawaii so it’s already special but I also got to shoot with one of my closest friends and phenomenal photographer Mike from Evoke Photography. To top that off, my beautiful wife and kids were also there so I got to hang with my family as well. It was a pretty amazing week! This is a long long post and I had to cut images…and there are still waaaay too many. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do…

Amazing news coming on Wednesday so check back. This will be one of the last two posts from me for about 2 weeks; so enjoy….
